Midsummer / Midsommar

Posted by Wohnreich on

Sweden's Midsummer,
the festival of the summer solstice.
On Midsummer Eve, the Friday before Midsummer Day,
On Saturday, maypoles are erected.
The maypoles are tall trunks decorated with leaves.
The term "Maypole" is not related to the month "May", but is derived from the old verb "maja", which means "to decorate with flowers".
The Swedes also decorate their wreaths with flowers.
Wreaths that are worn by children or by oneself while dancing around the maypole.
To make your own wreath you need birch and oak leaves, cornflowers and daisies or simply wildflowers.
And wire.
On Midsummer’s Eve, people dance and sing around the maypole.
On Midsummer Day, Sweden traditionally serves potatoes, herring, sour cream, salmon, crispbread and schnapps!
The party can begin!
It's summer!

It's summer in the living area too,
with the Midsummer Sale.
