Since the original coffee bean was difficult to obtain in times of crisis, alternatives had to be found. The roots of various wild herbs and grains or barley malt and tree fruits were used for “Muckefuck”. When roasted, the inulin contained in it turns into oxymethylfurfurol, which tastes like coffee. Application : Boil a measuring spoon with (plant-based) milk in a saucepan. Froth and enjoy warm. Also ideal as a baking ingredient, in a smoothie or as a wild addition to coffee beans. Simply mix 50/50 with normal coffee. Our tip: Super delicious with frothed oat milk!

Chicory root is also known as chicory coffee and can be used as a coffee alternative. The root has been valued as a power plant for centuries.
Chaga mushroom is a medicinal mushroom that most often grows on tree trunks in northern regions. Also known as the Schillerporling. The natives of North America boil Chaga as a peace and welcome drink.
Dandelion root is also a classic local alternative and was once drunk as Muckefuck. Mmm, delicious bitter substances!
